Christmas Tree Recycling Starts – Oakland County
Thursday, December 26, 2019 from 9am-4pm

  • Description: From Dec. 26 to Jan. 26, trade your Christmas tree for a new tree! From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day of the week, follow drop-off signs at Christmas tree recycling sites: Addison Oaks, Catalpa Oaks, Glen Oaks Golf Course, Groveland Oaks, Independence Oaks-North, Lyon Oaks (Park), Oakland County Farmers Market, Orion Oaks, Red Oaks Golf Course, Springfield Oaks (Park) and White Lake Oaks Golf Course. In return for recycling a Christmas tree, the Oakland Conservation District will distribute FREE white pine seedlings on Saturday, May 2, 2020, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., 1580 Scott Lake Road, Waterford. No charge to drop off trees, no commercial trees accepted, plastic, tinsel and wire must be removed.

Wild Lights – Detroit

If your kids love video games, we have an amazing track record of tapping into that passion to teach coding and game design. In this camp, kids will be divided based on age, and work on age appropriate projects accordingly. Only PART of this day will be spent on screens. Please let your campers know they will be busy doing multiple projects throughout the day, some on screens and some physically building mechanical games. Campers will be broken into different LEGO and LEGO robotics workshops throughout the day as they create an original Harry Potter themed holiday installation. Kids will be divided based on age, and work on age appropriate projects accordingly. A typical day includes 3 to 4 different workshops. No experience necessary. Campers bring lunch, water bottle, 2 snacks.

Indoor Snowball Fights and Ice Fishing – Detroit
December 28-29, 2019 from Noon-3pm

  • Description: Michigan is famous for its snowy, frigid winter season. Come experience some exciting winter activities at the Outdoor Adventure Center, but in the comfort of a heated building! We will have indoor “snowball fights” and “ice fishing,” with prizes included! This is a drop-in event and may end earlier depending on the number of participants and amount of supplies. Included with the price of Outdoor Adventure Center admission. 

National Visit the Zoo Day – Detroit

  • Description: Celebrate all your Detroit Zoo has to offer on Friday, December 27. Special talks with animal care staff and fun learning activities feature animals who are active during the winter as well as indoor viewing areas where you can stay warm.

Harry Potter and the Holiday Skate – Farmington
Saturday, December 28, 2019 from 6-9pm

  • Address: Riley Park Ice Rink – 33113 Grand River Ave, Farmington, Michigan 48336
  • Description: New additions to this year’s event include a Knockturn Alley feature and a Costume Contest. We will once again have a Horcrux Hunt. Riley Park Ice Rink does not have skate rentals; we have a limited number of skates on hand to borrow – various sizes. In the event the rink is not skateable on the 28th, the event will be held at the same time on Saturday, Jan. 4.

Carols & Cookies Holiday Family Morning – Canton

  • Description: Take a break and join us for a free morning of holiday festivities for all ages.
