Detroit’s own Dig A Phony is fanatical about reproducing songs from The Beatles recording catalog – LIVE.
From the cowbell in “Drive My Car”, to the handclaps in “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da”, to the kazoo sound in “Lovely Rita” (even though it was actually paper & combs), to the guitar fade out on “A Hard Day’s Night”– you will hear the song as it sounds on the album.

THE BACKBEATS
Using authentic instruments, clothing, and hairstyles, The BackBeats transport their audiences on a Magical Mystery Tour of yesteryear, when the whole world first heard the four names of John, Paul, George and Ringo. The BackBeats is proud to be the only Michigan-based Beatles show to have had sponsorship by both of the major classic rock Detroit radio stations (FM 104.3 and FM 94.7) and also by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. In 2009, when The Beatles released their highly anticipated video game “Beatles: RockBand”, it was The BackBeats that were hired to represent The Beatles for the release of the game in the Michigan market. The BackBeats members have traveled the globe performing with various Beatle tribute shows, from The Cavern Club in Liverpool to the famed Carnegie Hall in NYC, and it’s members have opened for such acclaimed international acts as The Beach Boys, The Zombies, Leon Russell, America, Jefferson Starship, Vanilla Fudge, and Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits, among others and have shared the stage with several members of Paul McCartney’s former band, “Wings.” The BackBeats methodology has always been that although no one can deny the importance of recreating the music with note-for-note accuracy, it’s the presentation of the material, the ability to keep the audiences dancing, clapping, and laughing that has always made the band stand out amongst the scores of tribute bands around the world.

The Summer Carillon Concert Series is a series of outdoor concerts held on six Fridays at 6 p.m. with 6 different artists. The free concerts bring international carillonneurs to Oakland University’s Elliott Tower. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy a relaxing evening listening to the sounds of the carillon’s 49 fully-chromatic bells.
https://oakland.edu/elliott-tower/
Donated by longtime supporters Hugh and Nancy Elliott, the Elliott Tower is a rallying point for student activities and creates a stunning visual centerpiece for Oakland’s campus.
The carillon plays the soundtrack to Oakland’s campus with the traditional Westminster Quarter chimes, along with live performances every Friday at noon and during special occasions.
Elliott Tower is the last carillon to have its bells and keyboard to be cast by the Petit and Fritsen Royal Bellfoundry in the Netherlands, which had been around since 1660. It features a fully chromatic 49-bell carillon. The largest bell is a low C, weighing around 5,000 pounds and measuring 5 feet in diameter, while the smallest bell is a high C, weighing in at only 24 pounds. The total weight of all bells is more than 30,000 pounds – that’s over 15 tons.

Outdoor Summer Concerts: What to Wear? What to Bring?
Perhaps now more than ever, the ability to spend a summer evening outside with loved ones and live music is not something we will take for granted. But how to you make sure you’re prepared to be able to fully enjoy the experience?
Clothing
For the most part, attire is casual to business casual. Summer evenings can be unpredictable, 75 and sunny can feel a lot different than 75 after the sun goes down. Bring a sweater or sweatshirt, especially for little ones.
Seating
Since many of these venues are park-like atmospheres, we recommend you plan to bring your own seating. Of course, camping chairs and blankets are ideal. Bringing one more blanket than necessary is often a good bet.
Food
Occasionally concessions are available, but it is better to plan ahead and bring water and snacks, or even a full picnic dinner. Just keep in mind that more than likely there will not be tables.
Keeping the Little Ones Happy
Remember the attention span of small children and be prepared with drinks, snacks, and activities such as bubbles, board games, coloring books, and outdoor toys. It is important to point out to plan ahead for the possibility that bathrooms may not be available.
