Chug on by and see the Royal Park Gingerbread Train in Downtown Rochester

One of downtown Rochester’s favorite holiday traditions is
the gorgeous gingerbread creation by the Royal Park Hotel.

Draped in candy and icing, and smelling like ginger, vanilla
and deliciousness, the hotel’s gingerbread confection draws lots of adoring
fans each holiday season. Located in the hotel’s lobby, this year’s gingerbread
creation is a train, filled with toys and sparkling with sugar.

There are tons of photo ops in the lobby, including a
platform you can stand on and a cute little depot. A word to the wise: Don’t
take a regular camera. On a recent weekday, we were asked to use our cell phone
cameras only to snap pics. Not a huge deal; but good to know.

It’s free to stop in and see the gingerbread train, though,
and it’s well worth the stop. The train is about 6 feet high and 8 or 9 feet long
and is decorated perfectly. The details are stunning, from the wreath on the
front to the wood on the back.

The “Gingerbread Express” is made of 200 pounds of gingerbread
mix and 40 pounds of shortening. Do you have a sweet tooth? It also features 50
pounds of sugar and 50 pounds of candy!

As in the past, visitors can donate to the Salvation Army
while visiting the gingerbread house.

There’s parking at the hotel and while you are downtown, you
can check out the city’s Big Bright Light Show.

The train debuted on Nov. 15 and will be on display through Jan.
