Camp Agawam Beach in Orion Township Hidden Gem: New Updates

Camp Agawam in Orion Township is a 140-acre camp that was owned by the Boy Scouts. The park is now owned and operated by the township. This recreational space features event rental facilities, campsites, a chapel, play structure, walking trails, as well as a swimming lake with a sand beach. The park underwent a transformation in 2023 that increased Camp Agawam Beach to nearly twice its previous size. The new beach area now features a designated swim area.

About Orion Township Camp Agawam Beach

Camp Agawam is home to a small sandy beach on Tommy’s Lake. There are a few picnic tables as well as benches on the beach. The area is surrounded by trees that provide a nice shaded area also. Beachgoers can also enjoy the picnic table area that is closer to the parking lot. Finally, restrooms (with showers) and drinking fountains are located near the parking lot.

The beach is a nice hidden gem that can accommodate a few families. During Bernadette’s visit, they had the beach to themselves. The children had a great time while they were there. It felt like a private beach resort It’s an amazing free resource for the community.

Beyond the Orion Township Beach

The park also offers scenic trails as well as disc golf. If you enjoy fishing, there is a dock just north of the beach and Peterson Lodge. There is a playground too, however it is not close to the beach. Camp Agawam is home to nine camping sites, a lodge, as well as many shelters and pavilions. Additionally the park is home to Oakland Paintball.

Admission, Hours, and Location

Camp Agawam is located at 1301 W. Clarkston Road in Orion Township. The park is located south of Clarkston Road and east of Joslyn Road, and is about 1.5 miles west of 24 (Lapeer Road).

The beach is open daily from dawn until dusk.

Surprisingly, admission is FREE for Camp Agawam.

  • Friendship Park – The largest of the parks in Orion Township, this 135-acre park hosts a plethora of community activities. Sports fields, playgrounds, a fishing pond together with picnic facilities make this the go-to park.
  • Civic Center Park – a 79-acre community park with sports fields, amphitheater, playground and also picnic facilities.
  • Jesse Decker Park – Constructed in 2009 this 24-acre community park hosts sports fields, a playground, sledding hill as well as picnic facilities.
  • Camp Agawam – This amazing park features an ADA compliant playground together with beach access and camping facilities.
