Great news Metro Detroit Mommies, there is a new Detroit Kid City on the east side, in Clinton Township. The new indoor play space is located on the north west corner of Metro Parkway and Gratiot, with driveway access off of Gratiot ONLY. It is tucked in the corner of the shopping plaza near the Secretary of State.
Being in the same plaza as the SOS causes some minor issues for parking during their business hours, and strollers are not allowed inside the building. But, it’s all worth it, IMO.
Detroit Kid City offers a shoe friendly indoor play space were kids (ages birth to about 7 or 8) can let their imaginations soar in this community just for kids. Children can pretend to build, be a banker, visit a pizzeria, garden, go shopping, be a postal worker, visit a school, play major league baseball and so much more.
High quality toys, vibrant colors and creative design make Detroit Kid City one of my favorite indoor play spaces.
The only thing missing is a few comphy places for mom and dad to relax and watch the kids play, although I am sure the idea is for the adults to join in on the fun. That being said, there is no ideal place to nurse a baby in the play area and still keep an eye on the older kids.
Detroit Kid City offers a variety of beverages and snacks, should you need to take a break and refuel after a strenuous play session.
While we were there three employees covered the play space, cleaning, interacting, and making sure everyone’s needs were met.
The Clinton Township location hosts a baseball diamond which replaces the story corner in the Southfield’s design. I LOVE IT. All the kids spent at least thirty minutes throwing the soft balls, & trying to catch them or hit them with a bat.
I was told during our visit that Detroit Kid City offers t-shirts too. And, if you wear your t-shirt to either DKC location you get 1/2 off your admission. Great deal!
I highly recommend Detroit Kid City for your next playdate or birthday party venue.
