Wayne County Light Fest
Tonight my toddler and I ventured out in the rain to see the sparkling lights of the Wayne County Light Fest!
Located inside of Hines Park at 7651 Merriman Road in Westland, the 25-30 minute ride through the park is a festive treat for all audiences! The cost is $5 cash per car. I wasn’t sure what entrance if the park was open, so I just typed the address into my Waze app. Be warned that a Romulus address could come up and that is not the correct one for the light fest! There is quite a bit of signage and pathways of cones leading you to any of the entrances!
The displays have something for everyone from golfing Santa to a menorah and the trains, dinosaurs and flamingos in between!
At the end of the 25-minute ride that averages between 10-20 mph, there is a stop where you can see the man in red and enjoy refreshments for an additional cost.
The hot chocolate, popcorn, and handmade chocolate treats were all $2. Pictures with Santa are $8 for one, 2 for $15 and 3 for $20. Don’t forget to bring cash!
You can even mail a letter straight to the north pole!
Tips for visiting include getting there before the gates open at 7 pm. Otherwise, there can often be 1-2 hour waits in traffic to enter. We got there around 6:45 pm and there was already some traffic! We got right in at 7 and only waited 10 minutes at the end to say hello to Santa. However, as we left around 7:45, the line was out the door of Santa’s Shelter already! There is a potty at the end near Santa’s spot which with a newly potty trained toddler was very exciting to try out! Happy Holidays!
