Little Diggers opened its Downtown Farmington location on September 3, 2026. The indoor playspace features a huge sandbox designed especially for children ages 7 and younger, making it a fun option for playdates, rainy afternoons and those long Michigan winter days when everyone needs to get out of the house.
A Giant Indoor Sandbox for Little Builders
The main attraction is 1,200 square feet of soft sensory sand filled with hundreds of construction-themed toys. Kids can scoop, pour and build with dump trucks, excavators, Sand Stackers, Tower Blocks and plenty of other toys made for imaginative play!
It’s the kind of space where kids can stay busy creating their own little construction sites while also working on fine motor skills, problem-solving and early STEM concepts without even realizing they’re learning.
Parents can climb into the sandbox and play too, or grab a seat nearby with a clear view of the play area. There’s also free Wi-Fi, which is always a nice bonus if you need to answer a few emails while your child digs.
And here’s a fun fact: the sand actually comes from the Bahamas! It’s a naturally sourced, silica-free sand made from oolitic aragonite. Its smooth, round grains give it that extra-soft texture and help keep it from packing down like traditional play sand.
What Parents Should Know Before Visiting
Little Diggers is designed for children ages 7 and younger. Older siblings are welcome to come along, but they won’t be able to play inside the sandbox.
Here are a few things to know before you go:
- Kids remove both their shoes and socks before entering the sandbox.
- A waiver is required for every child who plays.
- Children must remain supervised by an adult.
- Two adults per family are included with admission. Additional adults are $5 each.
- Outside toys should stay at home since the sandbox is already stocked with plenty to use.
- Snacks are welcome in designated areas, but food and drinks cannot go inside or directly around the sandbox.
And yes, because we know every parent is wondering about the cleanliness of a giant indoor sandbox, Little Diggers Farmington has several procedures in place. The sand is aerated daily to keep it soft and fluffy, and it is regularly treated with a non-toxic, vinegar-based cleaning solution. The toys are also cleaned regularly, and the facility uses a dedicated air-filtration system to help minimize dust and keep fresh air circulating.
Families can choose between 30-minute, one-hour and two-hour play sessions. Discounted rates are available when bringing siblings.

Open play is for children ages 7 and younger. Admission for two adults per family is included, and each additional adult is $5. Preschools and daycare groups can contact Little Diggers for group rates.
Birthday Parties at Little Diggers Farmington
Little Diggers also offers two-hour construction-themed birthday parties for children who would love celebrating with trucks, sand and their own little digging crew!
The Farmington birthday package includes:
- Admission for 12 children
- A private party room
- Construction-themed table settings
- Construction hats and truck sticker sheets
- Honest Kids juice boxes
Families are welcome to bring their own food, cake and drinks. The party room can accommodate approximately 30 people, including the 12 participating children. Larger groups can also ask about renting the entire facility for a private event. We LOVE that there is a private sandbox for kids to use in addition to the large shared ones out front!
