Independence Oaks County Park in Clarkston – Visitor’s Guide and Photos

If your family is looking for some summer fun, Independence Oaks County Park is a great place to visit. The park offers several playgrounds, a beach, pavilions, volleyball, horseshoe pits, 12 miles of nature trails, sensory garden as well as an amphitheater and more on 1,286 acres.

Independence Oaks County Park

Independence Oaks many different areas for their guests to enjoy including Beach Cove, Hidden Springs Beach, Lake Point, Lakeside View, Moraine Knoll, Pine Grove, Trailside, Twin Chimney, Amphitheater, Sensory Garden, as well as the Wint Nature Center.

Activities at Independence Oaks County Park

Independence Oaks County Park offers guests a wide variety of activities to participate in throughout the year. In addition to hunting and recreational archery, visitors can take part in volleyball, softball, baseball, and horseshoes. For a more relaxing day, hang out at the beach, go fishing, or have a picnic at the park. Those looking for a bit more action may enjoy the hiking and biking trails or even boating, canoeing, or kayaking on the lake. Families will appreciate the campgrounds, playgrounds, and geocaching activities too. And finally, during the winter months, parkgoers can cross country ski or snowshoe the trails.

Boat House at Independence Oaks County Park

Beach Cove at Independence Oaks County Park

Beach Cove is located right next to Hidden Springs Beach which offers a scenic sandy beach on a 1.7-acre lake. In fact, both areas of the park share the same parking lot.

The Beach Cove area offers a brightly colored and lively playground. Furthermore, the play space offers a large structure that gives children the opportunity to test their physical abilities. Children will enjoy climbing up the rock wall, spider nets, as well as a variety of other challenging ladders. In addition to the ladders, and a rope bridge the structure offers several slides. The playground also has a few ADA swings, a bouncy toy, a platform swing, along with several other play components.

Hidden Springs at Independence Oaks County Park

Hidden Springs Beach offers a scenic sandy beach on a 1.7-acre lake with 300 feet of beach coastline. The swimming area is roped off so as to limited the maximum depth to four feet, giving swimmers at least 18,000 square feet of swimming space. It is important to realize that there is no lifeguard at this beach. Therefore, it is left to the visitors to keep a close eye on their swimmers. Visitors can also enjoy playing sand volleyball or playing sports on the grassy field. Picnic tables, a small gazebo (with a grill), restrooms as well as vending concessions are within walking distance of the beach.

Lake Point and Boat House

Both Lake Point and the Boat House are located right next to the Twin Chimney’s park area. In fact, both areas of the park share the same parking lot.

Lake Point offers a lovely fishing dock that reaches out into Crooked Lake along with a few benches. Furthermore, the pavilion is available to rent. The nearby Boat House offers several different kinds of recreation equipment rentals including rowboats, pedalboats, canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards. Finally, guests can check out the Little Free Library right on the lake. Grab a book, and relax for a bit.

Pine Grove at Independence Oaks County Park

Pine Grove at Independence Oaks County Park offers guests a nice pavilion with nearby restrooms, as well as as a playground, volleyball and horseshoe pits.

Twin Chimney at Independence Oaks County Park

Twin Chimney sits right on Crooked Lake. Guests can enjoy a pavilion, gazebo, volleyball, horseshoes as well as restroom facilities at this site.

Trailside

Trailside offers its guests several horseshoe pits, volleyball and a playground. There is also a pavilion and restrooms in this part of the park.

Lakeview

Lakeview is situated just south of Trailside and offers it’s guests a pavilion/restroom building along with horseshoe pits. Guests can easily walk to the playground area at the nearby Trailside section.

Moraine Knoll

Visitors to Moraine Knoll can enjoy two playground areas, sand volleyball and horseshoes. In addition, the park also hosts a pavilion/restroom building.

Cohn Amphitheater

The Amphitheater, gazebo, sensory garden and nature center are all located on the west side of Crooked Lake. They are all within walking distance of each other and share the two parking lots.
