Yushu Zhou’s journey to opening We Rock the Spectrum is both inspiring and profound. After arriving in the U.S. 15 years ago to study at Cornell and Harvard, Yushu was motivated by the teachings of Mother Teresa, embracing the idea that “The fruit of faith is love, the fruit of love is service.” This ethos guided her through a decade-long career in the senior living industry, where she dedicated herself to improving the lives of the elderly.

A New Focus on Children’s Needs

The COVID-19 pandemic marked a pivotal shift in Yushu’s career trajectory. The birth of her son Oliver just before the state lockdown highlighted the profound impact of the pandemic on children, particularly those with special needs. This realization spurred her to transition her focus from seniors to children’s development.

An Inspired Vision for Michigan

Yushu’s experience in Franklin, TN, where she first encountered We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym, deeply inspired her. The gym’s commitment to supporting children of all abilities, including those with autism, ADHD, and Down syndrome, resonated with her deeply. Motivated to replicate this inclusive environment, Yushu decided to introduce this innovative concept to Michigan.

The facility is equipped with twelve pieces of specialized sensory equipment, including a Zip Line, Crash Pit, Trampoline, and Climbing Structure, which support the gym’s philosophy of “Play With A Purpose™.” This method emphasizes exercising and stimulating the seven senses to foster positive physical, emotional, and social development.
