Supporting Families in Need: Oakland County Foster Closet

About Oakland County Foster Closet

Located in Farmington Hills, Michigan, the Oakland County Foster Closet (OCFC) offers vital support to foster children and families experiencing crises. By providing free access to necessary items like clothing, hygiene products, and school supplies, OCFC alleviates financial pressures on foster families, allowing them to focus on helping children adjust to new home environments. This nonprofit organization, driven by volunteers, stands on the principles of hope, love, and community, striving to make a meaningful difference one child at a time.

Who Qualifies for Assistance

OCFC serves foster, adopted, and at-risk children, as well as families with low income. First-time visitors must present appropriate documentation such as Michigan ID, legal guardianship papers, and placement paperwork for foster cases, or a Michigan EBT card for low-income assistance.

Each family is eligible to visit every 3 to 6 months, depending on their status, to pick out items for their qualifying children. Available items include clothing, accessories, toys, books, and more. In addition to their selected items, each child will also receive essential personal hygiene products such as hair care products, body wash, toothpaste, diapers, wipes, and more, all thoughtfully chosen by their volunteers.

How to Donate

Donations are crucial for maintaining OCFC’s operations. They accept items like season-appropriate clothing, bedding, strollers (except jogging types), and more. Donations are welcome on Mondays from 10 AM to 2 PM at their location. It is important to ensure all items are clean and in good condition as OCFC strives to provide the best for the children it serves.
