Port Huron KOA – the Perfect Michigan Staycation

Port Huron KOA resort is located at 5111 Lapeer Road in Kimball, Michigan, right off of I-94.  Our drive time was about 1 hour to this location, making it a perfect location for a Michigan staycation. Last week GoRVing and Port Huron KOA invited my family and me to enjoy a couple of days of family time and fun at the campgrounds free of charge so that we could share our experience with you.  We stayed in one of the beautiful Deluxe Cabins at the KOA in Port Huron.

We love to go camping, but sometimes a long car ride might be a daunting adventure with your family, I know it is with mine.  “Are we there yet?”… “I’m hungry.”, “I have to pee again”.  The Port Huron KOA is a great solution for families that want to get away, but stay close.  The campgrounds offer so many different ways to stay too, from tent camping to Deluxe Cabins, they offer many different campsites to suit your needs (and budget).

Port Huron KOA Amenities

This KOA location is an amazing resort, offering lots of amenities for families, keeping everyone busy (and happy) throughout your vacation.  So many of these activities are FREE.  They offer fun games such as gaga ball, basketball, disc golf, horseshoe,  or volleyball.  You may also enjoy the pools,  playground areas, bounce pillow and more.  They also offer (for an additional fee) gem mining, bike rental, mini-golf, arcade, and other planned activities (like tie-dying shirts).

Port Huron KOA is located directly adjacent to Sawmill City, which offers train rides, waterslides, bumper boats, putt-putt golf, go-karts, and so much more.

In addition to the sports center, this location also offers a cute strip of town buildings that offer additional entertainment. This area offers a Western Store where you can buy snacks, clothing, and trinkets.  You can also rent bikes at the Livery or watch a movie at the Opera House.  Make sure you don’t miss the Sheriff’s Office where you can snap a photo keepsake of you and your family in jail.  Finally, don’t feel like cooking dinner, you can grab a slice of pizza in the Mad Dog Saloon.

Don’t forget to stop by the Ice Cream Parlor (next to the arcade) to enjoy one of their 16 flavors or some deep-fried food.

Community is Key

Finally, what I really love about this location is all of the community spaces they have available.  From pavilions to shared fire pits, there are many opportunities to gather and connect.  You will have many opportunities to chat with your travel mates or meet new ones.  Bond over some smores, meet new friends on the volleyball court or relax in the pool. There are so many ways to have fun here.
