Campus Martius Beach – An Urban Summer Destination

Does your family love beach sands and Downtown Detroit?  If so, you don’t want to miss a visit to the Campus Martius Beach this summer.  Colorful beach chairs and umbrella decorate the fun outdoor urban beach, along with 4000,000 pounds of sand.  Guests can enjoy building sandcastles, taking in the beautiful cityscape, weekly beach parties, live entertainment together with other fun summer festivities.

Campus Martius Beach Location and Hours

The Campus Martius Beach is located on the south lawn of Campus Martius Park.  The park is located in the heard of Downtown Detroit, near the intersection of Woodward Avenue Northbound and Cadillac Square.
Campus Martius Park:
800 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48226

Official Park Hours are from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm daily. However, there are often special events that extend beyond regular park hours.

A few weeks ago, we visited The Beach at Campus Martius Park.  Sand, shade, seating, and scenery make this a great place to spend a few hours.  In fact, the girls played in the sand for quite some time while my cousin and I had spent our time catching up.  There are plenty of comfortable chairs coupled with umbrellas for shade, making this a fun summer destination.  Sand toys are available on-site to share, but families are welcome to bring their own as well.

We love the view from the beach.  Guests can enjoy the nearby Woodward Fountain, Michigan Soldiers & Sailors Monument, South Sitting Garden, Waterwall (great place to rinse hands and feet), and other nearby attractions.

If you decide to grab a bite to eat there are several dining options nearby including PARC, The Fountain Detroit, Calexico, Shake Shack, Texas De Brazil and more.

In summary, Campus Martius Beach in Downtown Detroit is a great place for families to spend a few hours. Make it a day by visiting other great Detroit attractions. You may also enjoy visiting the Lafayette Gardens or Belle Isle.
