You walk out the door and you’re on the sand. There’s no packing up the car or planning out a full beach day. That alone makes a huge difference when you’re traveling with kids.
During our stay, mornings were spent outside watching the sunrise while the kids played in the sand, and afternoons naturally flowed back and forth between the cottage and the water. It created an easy rhythm to the day that didn’t require much effort.
Another standout is how quiet this stretch of shoreline feels. Compared to many West Michigan destinations, this side of the state offers a more relaxed, less crowded beach experience.
Thoughtfully Designed Cottages That Feel Easy to Settle Into
The cottages are simple in the best way. They are clean, functional, and thoughtfully designed so you have what you need without feeling like you’re managing a large or complicated space.
The kitchens have what you need, the layout is efficient, and the overall design feels updated while still maintaining that classic lake cottage feel.
For families, the loft space is a highlight. My kids immediately claimed it as their own and treated it like a built-in sleepover spot. It added a fun element to the stay and gave them a space that felt separate but still connected.
A Setup That Encourages You to Slow Down
What makes this stay stand out isn’t just the location, it’s how easy it is to relax once you’re there.
The cottages include access to a sauna, as well as outdoor space that makes it easy to spend time outside throughout the day. Evenings naturally turn into time around the fire, and mornings start slowly with the lake just steps away.
There are also simple touches that make a big difference for families, like a tire swing and picnic tables right on the property.
At one point, I found myself sitting in the sauna watching my kids run along the beach, and it was one of those moments where everything felt calm and simple in the best way.
Why It Works So Well for Families
This is one of those places where you don’t need to plan much in advance. The environment does the work for you. The beach becomes the activity, and because everything is so close, it removes a lot of the usual back-and-forth that comes with traveling with kids. There’s no constant packing, no long transitions, and no need to fill every hour with something new.
That simplicity is what makes it feel like a true break.
It’s also dog-friendly, which made a big difference for us. Our dog loved having direct access to the beach and spent most of the trip running along the shoreline and being part of everything. It made the experience feel even more relaxed knowing we didn’t have to leave her behind

Although this is an ideal summer destination, the experience isn’t limited to one season.
In the summer, it’s all about beach days, swimming, and early mornings by the water. In the fall, the pace slows down and the shoreline becomes even more peaceful. Spring offers a quieter reset before peak travel season, and winter brings a completely different, calm lakefront experience. You should see the sand covered in snow from the sauna – gorgeous.
The setting doesn’t rely on one specific time of year to feel special, which makes it a place you can return to again and again.
