Play Place for Children with Autism

Last week we visited a wonderful new facility in Sterling Heights aimed at supporting children with Autism, Play-Place for Autistic Children.  We received free admission to the facility so we could share our experience with you.

Play-Place for Autistic Children is located at 41105 Technology Drive, north of 18 Mile and east of Mound, in Sterling Heights.
The facility is open daily with providing children with autism, their family members and friends with open play, school field trips, workshops & classes, parent resources, birthday parties and more.
Their mission:

“to provide a fun-filled, judgment-free, haven of hope for families with the everyday nuances of “living with autism”. In essence, our objective is to create the Disneyland effect with a life-changing impact where “play” improves, empowers, and provides promise for a brighter tomorrow.”

The 25,000 square foot facility offers so much for children to do, including a computer cafe, art studio, carousel (additional fees apply), Lego castle, laser light chalk room, calming rooms, swing central, and parent bistro.

Finally, Play-Place for Autistic Children participates in work programs that provide employment opportunities for people with various disabilities.  They focus on individual strengths and talents with well-defined goals in a sheltered and secure capacity. The positions include retail, food service, greeters, stock assistants, maintenance, program attendants, and office duties.
