Ferndale Pride 2019

This weekend, our favorite PRIDE festival is coming to town, and its right down the street in Funky Ferndale!

Since 2011, Ferndale Pride has strived to put on an inclusive event that is free to the public,  supports local charities, and shows love to the businesses that support our community all year long.  Listed on the website After Ellen as a ”Small City Pride That is Worth the Trip,” Ferndale Pride draws more than 15,000 attendees for a full week of events leading up to Pride’s premiere event the daylong street fair.

This year, Ferndale Pride is sponsored by Candle Wick Shoppe and the main event takes place on Saturday, June 1st from 1-8pm, with plenty of pre and post Pride activities planned. We like to attend this particular event because it is just the right size for our family, close to home and we feel safe while there.  It is so important for our children to see families like ours in a fun atmosphere.

After walking through the vendors, we usually find the children’s area.  This year it is open from 1-6pm and includes a 25′ climbing rock wall.  In addition, kids can create rainbow marionettes, chalk art, hoola hoop and more.

A favorite event for my family, is the Drag show (scheduled for 4:35pm).  Emcee Bentley James will keep the show family friendly and positive.  My daughter loves dancing along with the Queens and Kings and interacting with them during and after the show.

If you would like more information about this year’s event, check out their webpage. I am happy to see they have added shuttles (to combat the parking issue). There are plenty of locations to park and catch a ride into all the festivities on 9 mile.

If you see us there, say hello! This year the whole family has matching t-shirts!
