Backyard Playroom Hours and Location
A phenomenal resource is available to the community, the Backyard Playroom provides families with an indoor space for children to play and adults to mingle. The Backyard Playroom is located within the Cana Lutheran Church, 2119 Catalpa, in Berkley.
Their hours are currently Tuesday and Friday mornings from 10 until noon during the summer and they will resume their regular hours of 9:30 to noon in the fall.
About our visit to the Backyard Playroom
Each time you visit you are asked to sign in. on your first visit, you will be asked to sign a waiver, which takes just a minute or two. Admission is FREE!
Snacks and drinks are available. All proceeds go toward restocking the food and drink items. Visitors can enjoy these items in the lounge.
Parents and children should remove their shoes before entering.
The Waldorf-inspired space focuses on the use of natural materials and the encouragement of exploration through play.
The Backyard Playroom is a collaboration between the Cana Lutheran Church and the MOMs Club of Berkley. Their vision is to provide a high-quality indoor space for families became a reality almost two years ago thanks to crowdfunding and volunteers. The program that provides free admission to all, thrives on volunteers to be Playroom Hosts.
What I loved about the space is that even though it is a partnership between the MOMS club and the Church, there was no pressure to join (or even mention) of either. The two groups genuinely want to be a free resource for families in the community.
They also offer Birthday Parties for just $50. The Backyard playroom hosts birthday parties on Saturday mornings from 10am to 1pm.
According to their website, they plan to add PNO events in the future.
