Watch Out Sherlock, There’s a New Detective in Town – The Great Escape Room @greatescaperoom

The Great Escape Room has opened their latest location in Royal Oak, Michigan on Friday, December 26.

The adventure is a “real-life room escape game,” based on the popular computer and mobile phone escape games. After entering a room with your team of up to 12 people, the door is locked behind you. 60 minutes are on the clock, you must work together in order to find the clues and solve the puzzles that will lead you to your escape. It is part scavenger hunt and part puzzle game. You have to hurry, only about 20% of groups are able to meet the challenge and escape!

A group of my blogger friends and I were able to experience “The Library” during the soft opening of the Great Escape Room a few weeks ago.  Here is what the room looks like upon entering:

Basically you have an hour to find as many clues you can and solve the four major puzzles to escape.  A guide enters the room with you to observe, (make sure you follow the rules) and give a little guidance if you need it (in the way of up to three clues you earn by finding magnifying glasses).
One of our team members expressed concerns of claustrophobia, but there was plenty of room and there are two doors that can be opened at any time in case of emergency, (but not for bathroom breaks).

So, basically you open everything, tear everything apart looking for clues.  Inspect, open, flip, look everywhere, find the clues…. solve the riddles and escape. It’s that easy… and not so easy all in one great hour of fun. As you can see below, we escaped:)

L to R: Alysia (Michigal), Anna Mae (Ann Arbor with Kids), My husband, (Chancellor), Me (Amber),
Liz (Yes/No Films), Julie, and Crystal (Mom Among Chaos)
Because the Library (and future rooms) keep the same riddles, once you complete a room, you cannot do it again.  The Great Escape Room is aiming to host three rooms in their facility.  The Library will eventually be retired and replaced with a new puzzle room, so the facility will be constantly changing to meet the needs of the clientele.
I highly recommend The Great Escape Room.  We had so much fun.  The riddles were great and challenging.  I think teens would also enjoy this activity with their peer or family members.  This would make a great Mom’s Night, or Parent’s night out activity.  I am looking forward to heading back with family and friends to check out their next room as soon as it opens.

Please visit their website for additional information and to reserve your tickets.
