The DNR Outdoor Adventure Center brings “Up North, Downtown”.  This family friendly Detroit destination features Michigan’s woods, water and wildlife inside a three story 40,000 square foot building formerly known as the Globe Building.  The facility provides hands-on recreational experiences for all ages through a variety of activities and exhibits that engage the senses.  Opening in July of 2015 this unique gem has gained popularity through word of mouth from all who go and enjoy their time.

Owner and Founder Danielle is amazing.  Wife, mother of two boys, and former Deputy Director of of the Office of Charter Schools at Detroit Public Schools, her experiences in education and as a parent have contributed to the creation of the first commercial indoor play space in Detroit. PuppetART is located in the heart of Detroit’s Theater District, surrounded by the Michigan Opera Theater, Music Hall, and the Gem and Century Theaters.  The Center accommodates an audience of up to 70, hosts a museum of puppets and features various puppetry workshops. Performances are every Saturday at 2 p.m. and occasionally a Thursday performance at 10 a.m.

The Michigan Science Center is host  to the Chrysler IMAX Dome Theatre, Dassault Systèmes Planetarium, DTE Energy Sparks Theater, Chrysler Science Stage, a Science Hall for traveling exhibits and hands-on exhibit galleries focusing on space, life and physical science.

Detroit is blessed to have such a fantastic museum within its borders, housing about 65,000 works of art.  The DIA offers free admission to residents of Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties and is regarded as among the top six museums in the United States, offering a collection that spans the globe both geographically and throughout time.  Their collection includes favorites such as “The Nut Gatherers”, “a Self-Portrait” by Vincent van Gogh,  the Diego Rivera murals “Detroit Industry”, and the Bronze Donkey (that demonstrate the danger of touching artwork over time).
The DIA offers so much for families such as live concerts, movies at the Detroit Film Theatre, Detroit City Chess Club, docent led tours, make and take art projects, drawing in the galleries, in gallery games, and so much more.

The Detroit Historical Museum is located in the heart of the city’s cultural center in Midtown Detroit, on Woodard.  The 78,000 square food facility hosts a variety of signature, changing and traveling exhibitions to keep their guests on their toes.  The Streets of Old Detroit is certainly the one exhibit that has stuck in my mind since my childhood.
