Watch the Meteor Shower – August 10th

The Cranbrook Institute of Science is hosting a Meteor Shower Overnight event from Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 6:45 PM to Sunday, August 11, 2024, at 8:00 AM, inviting stargazers to witness the spectacular Perseid Meteor Shower. Participants can enjoy a variety of activities, such as a dusk nature walk, an interactive flashlight tour of the Mineral Gallery, an investigation of the asteroid that toppled the dinosaurs, a Planet Walk, a meteor-focused planetarium show, artist-designed mini-golf at the Cranbrook Art Museum, self-guided activities, and a meteor scavenger hunt. As night falls, guests can set up camp either indoors or outdoors, stargaze with local astronomers, and join a naturalist-led hunt for bats and owls. The event includes snacks, a late-night movie, and a morning breakfast, making it ideal for guests ages 5 and above. This rain-or-shine event costs $125 per person for nonmembers and $106 for members, with registration closing on August 8 at 5:00 PM.

Dinosaurs in Motion @ The Henry Ford (June 9th-September 8th)

Come and enjoy the experience of prehistoric animals like you’ve never seen before at Dinosaurs in Motion, where you can move or engage with 16 life-size metal dinosaurs. Delight your family by making a T. rex’s jaw open and chomp by using levers and pulleys, or make a Plesiosaur swim using a touch screen controller. Go beyond the limits of natural history and meet these metal dinosaurs inspired by real fossils and built using recycled materials. This limited-engagement exhibition is designed to be highly interactive. You can also find art and science on display, including sketching, metalworking, biomechanics, kinetics, and the robotics that breathe life into these sculptures. Michigan Renaissance Festival 2024 (Aug 17th-Sept 29th)

Get ready for 7 weekends of huzzah and cheers at the annual Michigan Renaissance Festival in Holly, MI. Join the villagers of Hollygrove as they invite one and all to the magical 16th Century European village featuring 17 stages of exciting entertainment including: musicians, magicians, jugglers and jousting. Over 100 artisans will fill the Festival marketplace to display and sell their handcrafted goods for a truly fabulous and endless shopping experience. Patrons will interact with memorable characters and enjoy full-contact live armored jousting, 7 theme weekends, and fabulous food fit for royalty!

Wizarding Wonders Event in Troy

Calling all wizards and witches of Troy: Embark on a magical adventure with us! Make your own wand to practice spells, meet the Potions Master and try out the careful science that is potion-making, and much more!
$10 Residents, $15 Non-Residents. Register by 8/21. All in attendance must be registered, including adults.
