Saturday, September 18, 2021 is Museum Day
If you are gearing up for back to school, then why not get back into the groove with a trip to a local museum? Smithsonian magazine has designated Saturday, September 18, 2021 as the 17th annual Museum Day. In order to celebrate, museums across the United States will open their doors for free. Guests just need to download a branded ticket. The yearly event allows museums, zoos as well as cultural centers from all 50 states to emulate the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution’s D.C.-based facilities. These museums offer free admission every day. This year’s event is sponsored by The Quaker Oats Company.
Museum Day goes beyond getting visitors through museum doors. It also acts as a springboard to empower and help advance the hopes and ambitions of the public. The program specifically benefits school-aged children as well as those in underrepresented communities. It also represents a national commitment to access, equity and inclusion.
Experience America this Museum Day
This year’s theme, Experience America, represents the return to our country’s diverse cultural experiences. While tickets will be free of charge, participating museums will have safety measures in place for this year’s event so guests can safely and comfortably enjoy their experience.
More than 1,000 museums are expected to participate in Smithsonian magazine’s 2021 Museum Day, the largest event of its kind. Those wishing to attend Museum Day 2021 can visit Smithsonianmag.com/museumday to learn more. You can also download a Museum Day ticket beginning on August 18, 2021. Each ticket grants the ticket holder as well as one guest free access to any participating museum on September 18, 2021. One ticket per email address. You can find an updated list of participating museums at Smithsonianmag.com/museumday/search.
