My husband was having some issues with his car. We own a Saturn Ion and someone (not my hubby) drove the car and ran it up over a curb. The steering wheel was sticking so I had my son take it to Madison Quick Lube to have them look at it since it is literally around the corner from our house.
Here are the details of the shop:
Madison Quick Lube
25010 John R. Road
Madison Heights, Mi. 48071.
They are located on the northeast corner of 10 Mile and John R.
My son took the car in and asked them if they could fix the car. They said yes, and they looked at the car and told me that the Front Control Arm needed to be replaced and I would need a front end alignment. I was quoted $200 for the front control arm and $40 for the front end alignment. I agreed to the work over the phone.
My son dropped the car off at about 1:00 pm. He received a phone call that the car was ready at 4:18 pm. I went to pick up the car at 5:45 pm. The employee told me that the cost would be $200 and I handed over my credit card. I asked the guy what work was done. He explained that the front control arm was good and it didn’t need to be replaced and he cleaned the rust and greased it. I asked him how the part could have gotten rusty and he said it was because the car had been sitting a while. That is strange I replied, since we drive it every day.
I asked for a receipt. The receipt he gave me says:
Misc sales Steering Wheel Service $200.
With tax, the total came to $212. I told the employee that the bill was not acceptable. Did he replace any parts? He replied “no”. I then asked about the front end alignment. Another employee had joined the conversation and told me they sent it out to Belle Tire to get the front end alignment that cost them $60. I asked for a receipt, they said they didn’t have one. I asked which one and he said he didn’t know. To which I replied “How do you not know which location? Which location did you take it to?” He replied that he took it to the one on 11 Mile. So I walked away and called the Belle Tire on 11 Mile.
To my surprise (not really), Belle Tire had no record of working on my car that day. So I went back in and asked him again what name he used when he took my car in. He said they have a contract with Belle Tire to do this work. I told him the guy at Belle Tire said he didn’t work on my car. To which he replied, proud as punch, “which one?” like it was checkmate or something. Really? That is your defense? So I asked which location again and he said he didn’t know, to which I replied, “How is it possible that you don’t know where you took my car?” Then he said, “Oh, I did the alignment myself.”
I then asked for my money back. The gentleman said, would you have rather me to change the part. I worked for hours on your car and saved you money and this is the thanks I get. I still don’t see how he “saved” me money. He charged me the same price to clean the part that he would have to replace it. At least with the replacement, I would have a new part. At the most he worked on my car for three hours, which I think is really unlikely.
They refused to refund my money, I then called my credit card company and filed a dispute.
