Rainbow City Roller Rink

“Rainbow City Roller Rink is an inflatable wonderland-  turned-roller skating rink designed by acclaimed artist duo FriendsWithYou. Set inside 1001 Woodward Avenue and overlooking Campus Martius Park, the installation brings a colorful and whimsical experience to Downtown Detroit. The project is produced by Library Street Collective and supported by Bedrock Detroit and the Quicken Loans Community Fund.”

My family and I had the opportunity to visit this new activity installation which is loads of fun and free of cost. The Rink is open Wednesday- Sunday 2pm-9 pm. There is no entry fee nor is there a skate rental charge.  Parking is a horse of a different color with the Rink being in the center of Campus Martius be prepare to pay and ready for a bit of a walk. A little pre planning is required to reserve skate time online at  https://www.rainbowcitydetroit.com/ before arrival. Skate Times are in 45 minute increments. There is a slightly lengthy waver that needs to be filled out for everyone in your party (even if they are not skating) it is available to print and fill out at home,  I did not do this and spent the first ten minutes of skate time doing so .  Little ones with toddler size smaller than 11 are given skates that go over their shoes so you will def want to have gym shoes and not boots for the little ones.

When you arrive there is a table where you check in. The skate booth is right at the front you exchange one shoe for a pair of skates and your off. There is seating in the middle of the rink for those that just can’t make it all the way around. Lively music playing, a dancing clown-robot and brightly colored decor.
