PizzaPapalis has been serving up amazing pizza since 1986. Specializing in deep-dish, Chicago-style and thin-crust pizzas, the Detroit based pizza chain recently introduced Detroit-Style pizza to their menu. PizzaPapalis hosted our family for an amazing meal so we could share our experience with you.
The Troy location is unique, as they share their space with Rio Wraps, which allows for a great variety of options for lunch or dinner. In addition to dining in, they offer delivery, take out, catering, banquet facilities, and you can even order alcohol from their full-service bar.
Family-Friendly Atmosphere
If you have children, there are many features that will please your family. First, each booth has its own TV. Each pizza is made to order and may take some time to cook thoroughly, so the TV’s make the time go by a little faster!
Next, we absolutely LOVE that the kids can add their toppings to their own pizza. Simply amazing! It gives the kids something fun to do while waiting for the deep dish pizza to cook.
Detroit-Style Pizza at PizzaPapalis
“Food is a canvas on which you can do anything you want to do,” says PizzaPapalis founder, Joe Sheena. And why Detroit style, why now? “One reason and one reason only. Cuz we’re from Detroit.”
Before coming up with their amazing recipe, Joe, along with his brother, and PizzaPapalis owner, Mark Sheena, did a tasting tour of Detroit style pizza to see what worked, and what didn’t. Then they experimented with a wide variety of different combinations to come up with their own take on the deep-dish pizza Detroit style pizza.
Pizzapapalis makes the dough with a fresh blend of flours (no chemicals or additives). The dough is matured for at least 48 hours to maximize flavor. Next, they add a premium blend of Wisconsin cheese. Then they add your choice of fresh-cut toppings on top of the cheese. Finally, they apply the sauce on top of the cheese. It is made exclusively from tomatoes grown in Italy’s Agro Nocerine Sarnese region, which is known for some of the most acclaimed variety of tomatoes in the world.
PizzaPapalis Menu
In addition to deep dish, thin crust, Bianca thin crust, and Detroit Style Pizza, guests can enjoy appetizers, salads, soups, calzones, subs, ciabatta sandwiches, pasta, desserts and more.
During our visit, we also tried the Papalis Wings with the Michigan Bourbon sauce. Chancellor and I both agree, this is one of the best sauces we have ever had. A nice sweet flavor, with a hint of fire after.
We also tried the deep dish cookie, the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Our cookie is much bigger than the normal dessert, they normally serve the larger size for birthdays and special events.
