A Rich History Rooted in Tradition
Parmenter’s Cider Mill has a long and fascinating history that dates back to the 19th century. Founded by Benijah Aldrich Parmenter in 1873, the mill originally produced vinegar with a horse-powered press. Over the years, it expanded to make apple cider and apple butter, evolving through innovations in power sources, from horse power to steam and finally to electricity. The mill continued to grow under the stewardship of five generations of the Parmenter family until it was sold in 1968 to the Bodker family, who modernized the cider-making process and added the Northville Winery in 1982.
In 1991, the cider mill was purchased by Cheryl Nelson, Diane Jones, Rob Nelson, and Mel Jones, who ran the mill for 22 years. Today, it is operated by Robert and Carina Nelson, who continue the family tradition alongside their four sons, ensuring that Parmenter’s remains a beloved destination for generations to come.
