Nankin Mills Interpretive Center is a historic hot spot for explorers of all ages to enjoy. With seasonal celebrations, year-round programs for scout groups and guided tours for all ages, there is something for everyone! The historic grist mill holds three adventurous floors for the public to explore. Displays include Native American history, water-powered settlements and Underground Railroad history along the Rouge River, as well as Henry Ford’s use of the mill for one of his Village Industry manufacturing sites.
Nankin Mills Interpretive Center is open year-round, Monday through Saturday from 9am-4pm. Guided tours are available to groups for a fee. To schedule an indoor event for your group, register for a program or for more information, feel free to call (734) 261-1990 during business hours. Presentations with many topics are readily available for scout groups to earn badges presented by qualified naturalists. Homeschool student programs are also awaiting eager learners.
For some outdoor fun, Adult Outdoor Interpretive Hikes are available through nearby tree preserve, Bennett Arboretum or the Holliday Nature Preserve. Both hiking trails can be entered on the Nankin Mills Interpretive Center campus.
The Nankin Mills Interpretive Center is located at 33175 Ann Arbor Trail in Westland. The building faces Ann Arbor Trail and is just east of Farmington Road. Parking is available in a lot on Hines Drive. Restrooms are available indoors year-round during business hours. Take a walk back in time in historic Westland!
