Come hang out and play Minecraft on our custom server. There will be both survival and creative areas to enjoy either with individual play or with friends. Get your own space on our server so your work will be saved for the future or play on our group server with other kids who attend this event. Play at your own level and explore all the aspects of a multi-player MineCraft experience within the safe controlled environment of The Robot Garage. Thrilling Thursdays: Michigan Owls – Detroit

  • Description: Part of the Outdoor Adventure Center’s Thrilling Thursdays program. The last Thursday of each month, we offer free admission from 6 to 8 p.m. for all of our visitors and special programs, fun and games around a specific topic each month, plus enjoy all the exhibits at the Outdoor Adventure Center! This month, we’re talking about Michigan owls. Do you know how many owl species can be seen in Michigan? Join us this evening to learn which species call Michigan home and what makes these nocturnal predators built for hunting in the dark. Activities will include an owl pellet dissection and a weather-dependent “owl prowl” nighttime hike.

  • Description: This workshop is designed specifically for students competing in the Elementary-Level Science Olympiad. Students will examine and explore the major fish groups of the Great Lakes. This workshop will also test students’ recognition and differentiation skills and include a practice test. Each child attending must be accompanied by an adult. This workshop is intended for competing students and parents and/or coaches only. Participants must sign in and pick up a wristband at the front desk.

Young Explorers: Wetlands in Winter – Detroit

  • Description: Calling all kids ages 7-10 who want to get outdoors and explore our local nature and wildlife! For each monthly program, we will add entries to a nature journal, which participants can make here and bring back each time. This January we’ll visit our wetland area at Milliken State Park to discover how our local wetland plants and wildlife spend the winter. Dress for the weather. We recommend joining the fun at the start time. We may not be able to accommodate those who arrive more than 15 minutes into the activity.

Archery Explore It: Skill Development – Detroit

  • Description: This is your chance to explore archery. Archery Explore It is a one-hour program that will give participants the opportunity to learn how to safely handle a bow, learn proper stance and shoot several arrows. Browse our Explore It program selections to find the program that best suits your interests. Expand your love for archery with Explore It: Skill Development, a fun, skill-building program. Participants will have the opportunity to practice their shot with various target faces and activities. Skill development activities will be provided at the instructor’s discretion.
  • Participants must be 8 years of age or older. All equipment is provided. Limited to 18 participants.

MLK Day with Gertrude Croom – South Lyon

At age 16, Gertrude Croom walked with civil rights activists and was one of 50 residents arrested with Dr. King during the Easter Sunday protests of 1963 in Birmingham, Alabama. Now a retired Professor, Gertrude Croom will share the other places the Movement took her during her youth, including registering African American voters prior to the 1965 Voting Rights Act. This is a family friendly discussion.
