2022 Detroit Urban Craft Fair: Amazing Maker-Driven Holiday Fair

Are you looking for a new holiday tradition? Maybe the perfect shopping tradition for your family? When it comes to holiday shopping events in Metro Detroit, only one has become a tried and true tradition for those looking to support local artists and makers. Handmade Detroit established the Detroit Urban Craft Fair in 2005 and it remains the premiere maker-driven holiday market in the city 17 years later.

Detroit Urban Craft Fair returns to The Masonic Temple in Detroit Dec. 2-4, 2022

More About the Detroit Urban Craft Fair

This holiday season, Detroit Urban Craft Fair returns Dec. 2-4, 2022 to take over its longtime home at the Drill Hall inside Detroit’s historic Masonic Temple, 500 Temple Street, with its signature fast-paced celebratory atmosphere and a host of family-friendly activities.

The event is organized by the Handmade Detroit team, led by founders Carey Gustafson and Bethany Nixon, who are themselves small business owners. Gustafson runs Glass Action in Oak Park, Mich. and Nixon is owner of Reware Vintage. She opened her first brick-and-mortar location last fall in downtown Berkley, Mich. Gustafson and Nixon put vendors first and set the stage for them to have a best-selling and easy-going experience.

“The quality and enthusiasm of our Detroit Urban Craft Fair vendors is unmatched,” said Gustafson. “We’ve created a tradition. Expect a party atmosphere punctuated by live art demonstrations, make-and-take workshops, exciting giveaways – and of course it’s all set to a soundtrack of holiday music by DJ Dave Lawson. Our careful jury selections and efforts to keep the fair at the same amazing place our legacy shoppers know just how and where to find us.”

Vendor Selection

Detroit Urban Craft Fair brings together more than 100 juried vendors each year. Thirty percent of those vendors are brand new to the event in 2022. These vendors all are selected based on originality, creativity and price point. Shoppers will find a wide array of traditional handicrafts made with a modern spin. From vintage jewelry and clothing to handmade home décor, bath and body products to sweet treats, this is an event that draws loyal shoppers and families back year after year.

“We love to promote small businesses, talented makers and to keep money moving around locally to support people in the arts,” said Gustafson. “Our voting process at Detroit Urban Craft Fair really looks closely at price-points. We want shoppers to know when they bring their shopping lists they can expect to go home with a dozen or more perfect gifts, not just 2 or 3!”
