Downtown Rochester Lagniappe Scheduled for November 25th, 2019

Lagniappe (/ˌlanˈyap/) is an annual celebration in Downtown Rochester that kicks off the Big Bright Light Show and the holiday season.  Each year the merchants of Downtown Rochester offer their customers Lagniappe (Creole for “a little something extra”) in appreciation for their support throughout the year.  This year Lagniappe will be celebrated on Monday, November 25 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm.

The Rochester Downtown Development Authority (DDA) also will offer some Lagniappe with the debut of The Big, Bright Light Show, presented by Fox Automotive.  The program will begin at 6:20 pm on E. Fourth Street with help from the Mayor, Channel 7 and a special appearance by the man in red, Santa Claus himself, sponsored by The Brad Saarela team at Somerset Lending Corp., Andrews Realty Group and University Title.  The lights will officially light-up downtown Rochester at 7:00 pm.  Make sure to bring your cameras because kids will then have the opportunity to share their Christmas lists with Santa from 7:15 – 9:00 pm.

“Lagniappe is an opportunity for us to show our appreciation to the community in which we work and live,” said Brad Saarela, Owner of Somerset Lending Corp, Andrews Realty Group and University Title. “We know that we owe a good deal of our growth and success over the years to our local borrowers and every year we look forward to sponsoring Santa Claus so that we are able to contribute to this celebration, not only of lights and the Christmas spirit, but a celebration of Rochester and our rich history.”

In addition, free horse-drawn carriage rides, sponsored by TDR Orthodontics will be available at E. Third and Walnut Street.  The rides will run from 6:00 – 9:00 pm.  There will be a number of free holiday music performances to help visitors get into the holiday spirit; the Meadow Brook Carolers, Jennifer Kincer & Friends and more!

Following Lagniappe, The Big, Bright Light Show will run nightly from 5:00 pm – midnight through Jan. 5, 2020. After January 5, The Big, Bright Light Show will be aglow every Friday, Saturday & Sunday in January through the Fire & Ice Festival. Also, don’t forget Small Business Saturday on November 30 and the Kris Kringle Market, an open-air holiday market, Dec. 6 & 7.
