Scarlet’s Playground in Dodge Park in Commerce Township is one of our favorite playgrounds in metro Detroit. The playground is located within Dodge Park #5. The 106-acre park features a playground, wooded paths, a water fountain, athletic fields, a pavilion, picnic tables as well as paved parking. The northern section of this park was once part of the State of Michigan parks donated by the Dodge family.
This park is located at the southeast corner of S. Commerce and Commerce Roads. The parking lot is accessible from South Commerce Road.

Scarlet’s Playground at Dodge Park #5
Dodge Park is lined with beautiful trees. However, Scarlet’s Playground is severely lacking in shade. The 16,000 square foot playscape contains many interesting elements and therefore kept my kids busy for hours. The nearby water fountain was a nice amenity (though it wasn’t on during our visit). But if you have to use the restroom, you will have to either travel to the library or use the nearby store. Garbage cans also available. However, their distance from the play structure was a bit excessive and likely deters many from using them.
Scarlet’s Park is named after a local girl suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy and hosts equipment that is accessible to all children, including those suffering from a debilitating disease such as Scarlet.
The covered pavilion together with the picnic tables are a comfortable distance from the play structure. Close enough for me to be comfortable sending my kids to play while staying back at a party or gathering.
