Consumer Reports Find Concerning Levels of Heavy Metals in Fruit Juices

Consumer Reports released their findings last week and announced that they found concerning levels of heavy metals in almost half of the fruit juices they tested.  Forty-five popular fruit juices were tested (including apple, grape, pear, and fruit blends) for inorganic arsenic, lead, mercury, and cadmium.

Consumer Reports listed the tested juices in four categories, better alternatives, potential risk at 1 cup or more per day, potenetial risk at 1/2 cup or more per day,  and juice boxes and pouches potential risk at more than one per day.

You can find the entire report on the Consumer Reports website. The report details the potential harms of heavy metals, more detailed findings, more information about how much heavy metals are too much, how companies can fix the issues and what parents can do to help keep their children healthy.

In order to keep the information brief and easy to digest, we have just listed the brands and juices in each category.  Please refer to the Consumer Reports findings for more detailed information about risk levels to children and adults on their notes about products that were tested.
