Wondrous Man-made Waterfalls in Flint – Stepping Stone Falls

Stepping Stone Falls is located at 5161 Branch Rd. Flint MI. Access to both the park and parking is free. If you like to bike, run, or hike you can get to the park using the Flint River Bike Path starting at the corner of Carpenter and Bray.  Otherwise, there is an entrance and parking lot that is located on Branch Rd. http://www.geneseecountyparks.org/pages/SteppingStoneFallsandPicnicArea

Located on Mott Lake, Stepping Stone Falls is a little gem in the city of Flint, MI.  Rushing water cascades down concrete steps flowing from the Mott Lake to the Flint River.

The grounds were neatly manicured and the area was very well maintained.  I was impressed with the new paved walkways and bridge that has been installed since we last had a chance to visit.

Much to the delight of our grandchildren as we started walking the path from the parking lot there were plenty of ducks and geese swimming nearby. We also seen some big fish jumping out of the water (fishing is not allowed by the dam).

It took us just a few minutes of walking down the paved path from the parking lot to find the falls. The children seemed to be in awe of the falls.  I think we impressed them with something so pretty close by.   You are able to view the falls from three different levels and also from the bridge. To see the falls from the bottom and middle viewing tier you have to climb down quite a few stairs.  The top level though is fully accessible.

We were able to stretch our legs further by walking down the Flint River Bike Path that flows through the park.  The trees shading the pathway made for a comfortable walk and the children loved seeing the wildlife in the area.

If you want to bring you lunch there are a couple of different places available to picnic in the park.

Remembering how pretty the falls were at night when the lights came on,  my husband and I went back for a stroll later that night. We were disappointed to find out that the lights were not working. The park ranger told us that they were doing their best to fix the problem.
