Being that I just had a baby, I invited Hope, from A Busy Mom’s Slow Cooking Adventures, and her family along to join us on our trip to Castaway Cafe. Castaway Cafe in Howell is located right off of I-96, just north of the Tanger Outlets. After a bit of a ride in the car (we live by the Detroit Zoo), the kids were anxious to get out of the car and get to playing, however there was a bit of a line of families waiting to pay and get in.
We waited behind about 3 families and it took well over ten minutes for us to get inside. Each party member is marked so that children only leave with their own party. Admission (at the time of publication) ratew are: children ages 3 and up $6, children ages 2 and under $3, Parents and adults FREE, Infants in carriers FREE. We also had the option of adding the ability for the children to use the bouncers for $3 per child. Our girls quickly took off their shoes and got to playing.
There was a warning at the entry that the slides were super fast, so we talked to the girls about how to go down the slides, which made them both a little nervous about going down them. The main structure consists of 5 levels to climb and many slides to explore. The play structure was clean on most surfaces, but is showing some wear in some areas.
The toddler area is for children 3 and under, however little G, at age 17 months was barely able to navigate the structure alone and the slide was way too fast for him to go down solo. The slide was perfect for Rosa and E, ages 3 and 4.
Although there were plenty of comfy places to sit, this day was busy and many chairs were being used to store belongings which made feeding Carlyn a bit difficult. We did find a table in the back section to use for a bit, but most of those were filled as well.
The floor in the parent sitting area and eating areas were both very clean. Tables that were not being used had been freshly wiped. However, I used the restroom twice while we were there and it was evident that the restroom needed attention on our first visit. About 90 minutes later we used the restroom again and the same garbage was on the floor.
Castaway Cafe offers a wide selection of menu items for lunch, dinner and snacks. We did not try any of the meals, but I did talk to many of the patrons, all were very happy with their food selections.
