7 Ways to Give Back This Holiday Season

ways to giveback this holiday season,

I spend lots of time thinking of ways to give back during the holiday season but does it usually happen? Unfortunately, it often seems like time slips away from me. This year, I want to follow through with giving back. Even if I’m short on time, I can do something simple like write an inspiring quote and place it on someone’s car. So, I came up with this list, and I’m hoping it will inspire a few people!

7 Ways to Give Back This Holiday Season

1. Remember the people that serve you every day! When it’s cold and rainy, I always feel sorry for the school crossing guard. I always want to run out and buy her coffee. Another person is our kind mailman that roughs the weather. I want to purchase a bunch of gift cards for coffee and hand them out. If you’re budget conscious, a hand-written note or homemade cookies are great options.

2. Donate some of your time to a soup kitchen or helping the homeless this holiday season. My fourteen-year-old daughter inspired me. My church is hosting people that are homeless for a few weeks. Faith and I signed up to help check people in when they arrive. Helping other’s is very humbling. I want my children aware how blessed we are.

3. Find a group of friends and sponsor a family during the holiday season. You can ask your local church or friends if they know a family in need. Or, visit Volunteers of America to adopt a family in Michigan.

4. Donate used toys, clothing, and coats. Now, is a superb time to purge of items that you don’t need. When my kids were little, they would receive way too many toys. I would make sure to donate a bunch before the holiday season began. Also, get your child involved in this process explaining about other kids in need.

5. Send Christmas cards to troops overseas. I know a bunch of these close soon so that the cards will arrive on time. Here is a website where you can receive a soldier to send a card too. Remember, not to write with anything glittery because it can cause a problem with injured soldiers.

6. My husband buys a big platter of cookies and takes to the local Fire Department each year. The Firemen are always so thankful for the treats! We also buy poinsettias to take to the nursing home to brighten the place up. Find someone to cheer up!

7. Don’t forget about our furry friends this holiday season. I know many shelters that are always in need of blankets, treats and dog food. Give your favorite shelter a call and ask how you can help! Or, volunteer to walk someone’s dog that can’t get out and do it for themselves!

What would you add to my list? I would love to hear your ideas!
