4 Ways to Boost Your Child’s Health for Life

Everyone wants their child to grow up to be happy and healthy. Of course, your wishes won’t stop your little ones from putting things in their mouths that they shouldn’t. (Thankfully, Elmer’s Glue is non-toxic).

While you can’t keep your kids from getting sick now and then, there are a few ways you can set your child up for a healthy life. Here are a few tips you can use to boost your child’s health and wellness as they grow.

1. Take advantage of annual check-ups

Approximately 93% of kids have seen a doctor in the last year. Annual check-ups are an important part of monitoring your child’s health. If you’re worried about not being able to afford healthcare for your child’s check-ups, do some digging into public programs. Two programs that work together nationwide include Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Check-ups are important for detecting health concerns before they become a major problem or a health emergency.

2. Restrict volume on your kids’ tech toys

Listening to videos and music on high volume can lead to damage to the eardrum over time. In fact, approximately 15% of American adults aged 18 and older report having some trouble hearing. To prevent ear damage and conditions like tinnitus, make sure to restrict the volume on your children’s tech. For iPad and iPhone specifically, you can lock the volume limit with a password.

3. Hype up hydration

According to Harvard researchers, over 50% of kids in the U.S. are dehydrated. Dehydration can have a major impact on your child’s health. Over two-thirds of our body is made up of water and we need regular fluid intake to get the water we need. However, rather than drinking water, many kids prefer to drink juice, soda, and energy drinks. It’s no wonder, then, that over 40% of kids have cavities by the time they reach kindergarten. To increase your child’s water intake, consider keeping a reusable water bottle for them in the car and another one for them in their bookbag. Eating healthy foods high in water content like watermelon and cucumber are also great ways to get in more water.

4. Set up a bedtime

Your kids might not be big fans of having a specified bedtime, but their bodies will appreciate it. Sleep is essential for everyone’s health and helps to reduce the risk of chronic health conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Unfortunately, many of us begin to lose sleep as we get older and we struggle to keep up with daily responsibilities. Between eight to 10 hours of sleep per night is ideal, especially for kids. Consider setting up a schedule where your kids put away their tech 30 minutes before their bedtime to help their minds settle down. Mellowing out before bed will help make falling asleep easier.

Your child’s health and happiness is key. By following the tips above, you can help to set your kids up for success when it comes to their health and wellness.
