‘Hearts of Remembrance’ Offer Options for Gifts that Give this Holiday Season
Every year people strive to find that perfect holiday gift. Whether it’s a new pair of shoes, the latest and greatest gadget, or a gift card to a favorite place, folks cherish the chance to give and receive gifts. For those looking for a gift with meaning, the Arbor Hospice Foundation has just the thing.
The Ann Arbor-based nonprofit is once again offering its popular Hearts of Remembrance handmade ornaments to those who make a tax-deductible donation in support of Arbor’s mission. The signature heart-shaped embroidered keepsakes are made of felt by a small group of volunteers who spend the entire year working on them. The 2018 design features delicate green branches with dainty hearts in pinks and deep reds.
For the first time this year, in honor of loved ones who’ve served the country, Arbor volunteers have also crafted a limited-edition Veterans Heart featuring a patriotic fireworks-like cascade design in red and blue on a white background, adorned with a flag charm.
Both designs can be designated and shipped as gifts. The traditional heart is available for a $25 minimum donation, with a $20 minimum contribution for the Veterans Heart. Additional hearts in both styles are available for $15 each. Tax-deductible donations to the Arbor Hospice Foundation can be made online at www.arborhospice.org/donate/hearts-of-remembrance or calling 313-578-5025.
The Hearts of Remembrance campaign provides a unique way to remember a loved one, while ensuring Arbor Hospice patients and families receive comfort and care at end-of-life. Any gift, whether $25 or $1,000, can make a difference. Funds raised through the campaign help support charity care for uninsured or underinsured patients; grief support services for adults and children; complementary therapies such as music, pet and massage therapy and comfort care for those dealing with serious illness through Arbor Palliative Care.
The Hearts of Remembrance program was started more than 25 years ago by generous volunteers, many whose loved ones received care from Arbor Hospice – and to this day, the campaign continues to raise more than $65,000 every year. Volunteers meet every month at Arbor Hospice to create the hearts, and they continue to work on them at home throughout the campaign. No matter where the heart is created, recipients should know they are made with love and care, while also offering family members and friends a beautiful reminder of their loved ones.
