Dodge Park in Commerce Township

Dodge Park in Commerce Township is a 106-acre park featuring a playground, wooded paths, port-a-potty facilities, a water fountain, athletic fields, a pavilion, picnic tables and parking. The northern section of this park was once part of the State of Michigan parks donated by the Dodge family.

This park is located at the southeast corner of S. Commerce and Commerce Roads. The parking lot is accessible from South Commerce Road.

Dodge Park is lined with beautiful trees. However, the play area is severely lacking in shade.  One wonders if they cut all the trees for the playground… if so, what a shame.  The play structure contains many interesting elements and kept my kids busy for a couple of hours.  The nearby water fountain was a nice amenity. But if you have to use the restroom, you will have to either travel to the library or use the nearby port-a-potties.  Garbage cans were available too. Their distance from the play structure was a bit excessive and likely deters many from using them.

The covered pavilion and picnic tables are also quite a distance from the play structure.  Not close enough for me to be comfortable sending my kids to play while staying back at a party or gathering.

The park is slated to be home to a brand new 16,000 square foot playscape.  Scarlet’s Park, named after a local girl suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy will host equipment that is accessible to all children, including those suffering from a debilitating disease such as Scarlet.

The park also hosts Summer Concerts (typically in June and July) and is home to the cities newest library (located on the north end of the park).
