AR Workshop Northville: Review

AR Workshop in Northville is a brand new DIY boutique that offers hands-on classes to create charming unique home decor, wood signs, chalkboard projects, metal projects, canvas pillows and more. AR Workshop offers a wide range of projects on various mediums that are stylish and classic while being on-trend.

The company AR (Anders Ruff) Workshop began in 2010 and was named after its founders Maureen Anders and Adria Ruff. The AR Workship in Northville is owned and operated by two friends who love to create and help others create pieces of unique art.

I have the privilege of attending the grand opening of the AR Workshop in Northville on Thursday, August 4. This was the first class open to the public and I’m happy to say that the class was full! Before the day of the class, each guest registered online and chose the design they wanted to make. This allows the workshop to have each person’s stencil ready before the class begins. When I walked into the studio that night of class, my chosen stencil and all necessary supplies were ready and waiting for me.

Before we began working on our projects, we had to choose our paint and stain colors. To do so, swatches of colors were sent around to each table. We needed to choose colors for the background, frame, print, and designs. As we did so, they suggested we write our ideas down directly on the white paper that covered the tables.
Next, we were given directions on how to proceed with the project. The instructions were given to the entire group, but then we were able to ask questions and get help from our own personal table assistant. I found our assistant to be very helpful and knowledgeable. I thought the idea of having small groups work together with the aid of an assistant was brilliant! Another thing I really liked was the organization of supplies and tools which were found at each table.
The entire process of creating our wood framed projects took about 1.5-2 hours. We painted or stained the background and frame first, then we proceeded with the stenciling of the letters and designs. The last step was nailing the frame around the project, which was completed by an employee with a nail gun.
Below is a photo of my completed project. I have to admit, I am in love with it. It’s hard to believe that I created this masterpiece that looks like it came from a store or straight off Etsy.
If this project interests you, I highly recommend checking out AR Workshop in Northville. You can visit their website or Facebook page to see all the projects available.
